Showing Growth in Challenging Times
Coastal Medical has expanded its primary care services by adding six new physicians to its offices across Rhode Island.

With over 90 physicians, Coastal is one of Rhode Island’s largest independent primary care practices, providing care to more than 120,000 adults and children at 20 locations across the state.
“With primary care physicians in high demand across the country, we are extremely pleased that these six doctors chose to join Coastal,” said Coastal Medical’s COO Meryl Moss.
Kelly Cohen, MD, joined Coastal Medical Waterman Pediatrics in East Providence in August. She received her M.D. from the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and her B.A. in neurobiology from Harvard College. Dr. Cohen completed her residency at Boston Children’s Hospital and Boston Medical Center.
Maureen Baur, MD, joined Coastal Medical Wakefield in September with a focus on adult medicine. Dr. Baur received her M.D. from The University of Maryland School of Medicine and her A.B. in Organismic and Evolutionary Biology from Harvard University. She completed her residency at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Oakland, California. Dr. Baur also practiced at Kaiser Permanente before joining Coastal Medical.
Chien-Hsiang Weng, MD, joined Hillside Family Medicine in Pawtucket in October. He received his M.D. from the National Yang-Ming University, Taipei City, Taiwan, and also a M.P.H. from Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health. He completed his residency through NH Dartmouth Family Medicine Residency in New Hampshire. Dr. Weng will continue to conduct research and teach at Brown University. He is joining Coastal from Providence Community Health Centers.
Despoina Mavrommati, MD, joined Coastal Medical Warren Avenue in East Providence in October, with a specialty in adult internal medicine. She received her M.D. from the Medical School of Comenius University in Slovakia, and her B.A. from the University of Patras in Greece. Dr. Mavrommati completed her residency at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, Massachusetts.
William Christopher Muse, MD, joined Coastal Medical’s Musculoskeletal Health Program in East Providence in November. He is a specialist in adult non-operative orthopedic care. He received his D.O. from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Bradenton, Florida and his B.A. from Loyola College in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Muse completed his internal medicine residency and primary care sports medicine fellowship at Summa Akron City Hospital. He is joining Coastal from Tri-Country Medical Center Urgent Care in Hartville, Ohio.
Sevil Hemayat, MD, joined Coastal Medical Newport in Middletown in January as a specialist in adult medicine. She received her M.D. from Tehran Azad University of Medical Sciences in Iran. Dr. Hemayat completed her residency at SUNY Downstate College of Medicine at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital in Queens, New York.
